WHITNEY MUSEUM
GROUNDBREAKING SERIES

In 2010, my partner and I created a series of short, ‘poetic’ videos used to communicate the groundbreaking of the new Whitney museum space near the high line. Each was a different take on the move, with no call to action outside of growing interest and awareness.

This ‘Reflections’ video used a very simple but evocative overlay approach to compare the old space and the new space. The ghostly effect is an interesting way to suggest changes to a space that aren’t material yet.

I used this same technique (and footage) to a greater degree with an RGB channel-mixing approach for a background video accompanying a Banana Republic F/W fashion show, seen to the right.

A few other videos for the Whitney that mixed archive and visual effects to tell different parts of the story, with different tonality.

COMPLEXCON
ANNOUNCEMENT/THEME VIDEOS

One approach for video storytelling that I think is effective is to marry voiceover from a variety of sources with on-screen text. These two videos pulled quotes from previous events to tell the story of the current year’s theme, complemented by graphics.

UPENN ARCHITECTURE
LECTURE SERIES POSTERS

Design studio Small Stuff designed these architecturally constructed posters, and I brought them to life with motion. This kind of kinetic typography and layered approach can be a effective way of showing change through time and layers.

Visual storytelling with archival images.

PORSCHE / IFC
FREEMAN THOMAS

This piece of short content uses archival images and video alongside animated visualizations to tell the story of how Porsches are designed from the driver outward.
