AIR, INC.

prepared by Wyeth Hansen

The brand refresh is refreshing! The home page is clearly a work of care and joy, and promises a fluid user experience within the platform itself.

One area that has some killer features but doesn’t get as much shine is the bento box under the “Air Unblocks Creativity at Scale” section. These are the under-the-hood functions that supercharge Air, and at the moment it’s easy to glide past them without understanding how much power and efficiency they bring. I think a little bit of responsive motion would draw attention and add at-a-glance clarity.

APPROACH

My exploration is to create responsive icons that activate on rollover, illustrating the functionality in an immediate and visually gratifying fashion. When inactive, they still function as standalone icons that already exist on the platform (like stacks, transcriptions, etc) or are concepts that will need illustrating elsewhere (facial recognition, smart tagging, etc.)

The initial resting state is a simple, linear icon that follows general design system best practices. When activated, it expands and gains some light dimensionality, whether that’s a change in perspective, or suggesting z-space movement. This expansion is giving the concepts space to breathe, per the brand idea, and mirrors the ‘unpacking’ action present on the platform.

IMPLICATIONS

These would be lightweight json animations/lotties that can be easily deployed elsewhere on the site, turned into more compact versions that could be present in everyday usage, or serve as models for  full-frame renders that could live in sales presentation, how-tos, demos, and other informational usages.

ONE MORE THOUGHT

The bento box features are a mix of AI-driven time savers and user customizations, and it may be helpful to organize them as such. Designers and creatives make mixtapes/playlists with specific transitions, order their bookshelves by any number of esoteric criteria, so separating out the curatorial controls from the AI-automated processes could be clarifying.
